HAL Applications

Multiple Room Audio in Stereo using a HAL3s

This system provides music in stereo for three separate zones. Applications include hotels, multifunction rooms or distributed stereo in homes. These are the requirements:

  • There are two audio sources: a radio receiver and a cable receiver.
  • The three rooms need individual source selection and volume within each.

This can be accomplished with:

  • (1) HAL3s Multiprocessor
  • (1) RAD6 for the second input, in this case a cable box.
  • (3) DR3 Remotes in each room to adjust source and volume.
  • The system can use either powered speakers, amplifiers and speakers, or a combination of both.
  • Optional Windows® PC running Halogen may be used to fine-tune volumes and other settings.

3-zone stereo background music system

All of the DSP required for distributed background music selection, room equalization, speaker protection and Level control is included in the HAL3s. Each of the three outputs has a limiter to protect the speaker, and each zone is preset with a maximum loudness. Parametric equalizers are used in the example, though 30-band graphic equalizers can replace these or be added.

The RAD6 is used here only to provide a second stereo source. If only a receiver is used, and the music source is centrally switched from that, the RAD6 can be removed, and DR1 remotes can be used to control room volume.
