House of Worship Sound System using a HAL3s

This sound system is applicable for a small to medium sized church / chapel / temple / mosque / synagogue, using just two microphones or a live sound mixer with multiple microphones. Two wireless microphones could include one receiver of a pocket transmitter for a lavalier or headset mic, and the other receiver for a wireless handheld mic. Line inputs handle either an electronic keyboard and CD player, or can accept outputs from a larger live music mixing board. There is a central cluster above the dais, and two speakers along each side for fill. The perimeter speakers are configurable for stereo music in a small church, or mono with alignment delays in a larger church. The service is to be heard in the narthex / lobby through ceiling speakers. A cry room hears the service through its local speaker.

This can be accomplished with:

• (1) HAL3s Multiprocessor
• (1) RAD3 dual XLR line input near the stage / dais for a keyboard, disc player and/or live sound mixer.
• (2) DR1 Remotes, one to control volume in the lobby / narthex, and one to control volume in the cry room.
• (1) DR6 Touchscreen Remote, mounted in the pulpit, on a wall, or on a desk, to control all input and output volumes.
• The Matrix Mixer in Halogen configures sources to the Perimeter Speakers for small or large rooms,
  • If the main loudspeaker covers the room for voice mics, then voice mics are turned off in the perimeter.
  • If the room is small, acoustics are good, stereo left and right from the keyboard can route to the left and right perimeter.
  • If the room is large, reverberant, or the main loudspeaker doesn't cover the sides, mics with delays help intelligibility.
• Halogen alignment delays may be used to perfectly time-align the spoken word to the first and second perimeter, all the way to the lobby.
• All of the DSP required for all speaker zones, source tone controls, room equalization, delays, speaker protection and remote Level control is included in the HAL3s. All of the outputs have a limiter to protect the speaker, and each zone is preset with a maximum loudness.
• Optional Windows® PC running Halogen may be used to fine-tune settings, but not needed to run the system.

This system has just two line inputs handled by a single RAD3. Since DR remotes can be plugged into a RAD port, three remotes are available, one in each room. The DR6 is the master control for all inputs, easy enough to be operated by Pastor Joe, and it can be located in the pulpit, on a wall, or on a table. The Narthex and Cry Room volumes can be adjusted by either the DR6 or the DR1's in each room, and levels will track and update on the other remote.

Many Fire Departments and city building codes require sound systems turn off so the alarm can be heard. Alarm systems usually provide a relay closure on a terminal block for the sound system. A twisted-pair of wires attaches to the HAL3s Logic In terminal 1 and ground to mute the system in case of alarm.
